Jeanette Núñez – Data Connectors
Since the days when she was campaigning alongside now-Governor Ron DeSantis, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez made headlines as the first Cuban-American woman to hold that position. Starting her career in public office as a State Representative in 2010, Nuñez rose to Speaker Pro Tempore in 2016, before the 2018 election gave her the honor to serve in the Executive Branch as Lieutenant Governor.
A Miami native, Lieutenant Governor Nuñez studied at Florida International University, where she earned both her graduate and undergraduate degrees. She started her career in the healthcare industry, as the State Director for Government Relations at the Miami-based Jackson Health System, and later as the Vice President for Community Affairs for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) at Kendall Regional Medical Center and Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. She went on to start her own consulting firm, while she worked to serve the state in the Legislature.
She served as the Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and served on the Rules and Policy Committee. She was appointed Chair of the Select Committee on Hurricane Response and Preparedness. In the past, she chaired the Health Quality Subcommittee, Government Operations and Technology Appropriations Subcommittee, and Higher Education and Workforce Subcommittee.
One step on Nuñez’s impressive career path has been as the chair of the State’s Cybersecurity Task Force, where she was appointed to chair a group of public and private industry security experts to help the state navigate the complexities of the state’s cybersecurity needs, ranging from infrastructure, governance, and operations. The committee continues to meet through 2021, along with its subcommittees: Identify, Protect, and Detect.
The task force was initiated in 2019 by the state legislature, to determine potential improvements in the state government’s security program, and that of the individual agencies. They would also be responsible for prioritizing threats, with the overall goal to protect the data of all Floridians.
Lieutenant Governor Nuñez attends Christ Fellowship West Kendall Campus, is married to her husband of 23 years, Adrian Nuñez, and together they are the proud parents of three children – Megan, Justin, and Jason.
